Curriculum vitae

University education and academic career

Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 from the Politecnico di Milano, in 1995 he was awarded a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics. In 1996 he joined as a Researcher at the Dipartimento di Meccanica of the Politecnico di Milano for the disciplinary grouping of Methods and Tools for Industrial Design. In 2001 he assumed the title of associate professor at the School of Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano.

Fields of research

The main line of research concerns the methodologies applied to the design process and the use of CAD and computer graphic systems to support the design and product development. The most recent researches are devoted on the application of methods and on the definition of tools able to support the designer during all the design phases. In particular, together with studies concerning the procedures for the identification of the requirements associated with the systematic innovation of the product, further researches concern the application of Knowledge Based Systems and on systems suitable for automatic configuration of products and industrial installations. Since 2012 he participates, in collaboration with collegues of universities in North and South America, to a teaching project that aims to study the most suitable methods and tools to allow the development of collaborative projects among students of different nations. He has collaborated and participated, even as the responsible scientific, at researches and consultancies carried out for the Dipartimento di Meccanica of the Politecnico di Milano, both at national and international level. In particular, he coordinated the research project "TECNOBIM", funded by Regione Lombardia, to design a kit for converting a endothermic vehicle in bi-modal (endothermic and electrical). Recently he has collaborated, as responsible of the subset of virtual simulation, to the national research project entitled "Motorcycle highly innovative direct injection engines with very low emissions, active suspension, assisted braking and new materials". He was also responsible for the scientific research unit of the National Research Project (PRIN) entitled "New conceptual models and new tools for design-driven innovation in the global economy." In this context, he is author and co-author both of journal articles and of reports presented at national and international conferences.

Lessons learned in recent years academic

Since 1991 he has been teaching of courses about design and drawing of the machines and systems of computer aided design in the field of expertise of his grouping scientific. At the present he is teacher of the course on "Design Methods" for the Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering and of the courses on "CAD Laboratory" and on "Technical Methods of Representation" for the Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was coordinator of the "Geometric Modeling for Virtual Simulation" course for Doctoral studies and the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He periodically holds update courses in companies as part of the methods of application of the standard ISO GPS and ASME 14.5 on the prescription of tolerances in designing. In this area he was, in the years 2004-2006, co-responsible for the course entitled: "Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing" proposed in the Continuing Education program of the Dipartimento di Meccanica.

Held academic positions

In the period 1998-2016 he was member of the Board of the Dipartimento di Meccanica where he initially was head of the internal computer laboratory of the Dipartimento di Meccanica named "Polo CAD”, and, after, coordinator of the educational service of the department itself. He was a member of the faculty of Mechanical Engineering PhD, and of the Design PhD at the Polytechnic of Milan.
